Rob starts with a re-cap of the intriguing comments made in Calgary last week by Canada’s new minister of energy and natural resources. Could we really be at the start of a new era for energy development as well as Alberta-Ottawa relations? We could learn more this week as Parliament resumes.
We’ll hear in this episode from Philippe Lagassé with the Norman Patterson School of International Affairs, who is perhaps Canada’s foremost expert on parliament and the constitution. We’ll talk about the visit by the King of Canada (and why it matters to refer to him as such)and significance of King Charles reading the Throne Speech. Prof. Lagassé also focuses part of his research on defence and foreign policy issues, and we’ll examine some of the challenges facing the new prime minister on defence spending and procurement.
Meanwhile, another strike is looming at Canada Post just as a major new report is warning that the crown corporation faces an "existential crisis and is effectively insolvent, or bankrupt." We’ll have analysis from Dr. Ian Lee at the Sprott School of Business, someone who knows the ins and outs of Canada Post and why it’s in such a dire situation.
Plus, a fascinating new book on the significance and the impact of the Trans-Canada Highway… Craig Baird is author of “Canada’s Main Street: The Epic Story of the Trans-Canada Highway.”
