Welcome to Episode 14 of the Rob Breakenridge Show - plenty to get into on this episode of the program, including a trio of interviews.
We’ll speak with University of Alberta energy economist Andrew Leach about Ottawa’s sweeping and ambitious Bill C-5, which is now the law of the land. So what will this look like in practice? The Prime Minister has again suggested that a new pipeline project as well as a massive new carbon capture project could be advanced under this law. We’ll find out just how realistic that all is.
Meanwhile, more on how this is all playing here in Alberta as the premier continues to push the Carney government for pipeline approvals and the scaling back of other problematic federal laws. This comes as the premier’s Alberta Next Panel gets set to start its summer tour of the province, not to mention the dueling petition campaigns that seem to be the increasing likelihood that Albertans will be voting at some point on the question of remaining in Canada. National Observer columnist Max Fawcett joins us.
Plus, the latest on our trade talks with the United States, just as US President Trump escalates again on the global trade front. We still seem to be aiming for July 21st as the deadline for a new Canada-US agreement, but of course, those talks briefly collapsed last week after Trump’s angry reaction to Canada’s Digital Services Tax (which was quickly scrapped by the Carney government). We’ll get into all of that with economist and C.D. Howe Institute senior VP Daniel Schwanen.
